The illustration represents the “Discovery of the juvenile hormone receptor” by Prof. Marek Jindra. Effects of juvenile hormone (JH) on insect metamorphosis have been known for 80 years but the mode of JH action until recently remained a mystery. A receptor for this unique arthropod hormone eluded identification. The lab of Prof. Marek Jindra showed that JH controls metamorphosis through a protein called Met, and that Met binds JH to its hormone-binding pocket.
